This talk will cover the new PopcornFX simulation node graph design choices, and the various concepts developed to improve graph readability, ease of use, and reusability, such as sub-graphs, graph derivatives, dxdF nodes, and the discretization concept.
Ultimately, this talk will dive into the low-level details of the nodegraph compiler and optimizer: how to turn a high-level, generic, artist-oriented graph into a highly efficient hardware-friendly runtime representation.


Attendees will learn how to design and implement a simulation nodegraph with improved readability and usability, in such a way that tech artists have to worry less about performance and memory impacts. We will also share tricks and lessons learned in writing an effect compiler and global optimizer.
