Use the experience filter to view sessions and roundtables that will be available on the virtual GDC event platform. Virtual sessions will be available to watch on-demand through April 1st, 2022 at 5pm PT. All days/times are displayed in Pacific Time.

Use the Viewing Experience filter to see which sessions will be available on-site, on the virtual platform, or both:

  • In-Person: offered on-site, not available within the virtual platform. Check the session’s listing to see if it will be recorded for GDC Vault after the conference.
  • Virtual: offered in the virtual platform at its scheduled time.
  • In-Person/Virtual: offered onsite and the recording will be available to watch-on-demand within 36 hours of the session start time on the virtual platform until April 1st at 5pm PT
  • In-Person/Virtual Livestream: offered on-site and will be livestreamed to watch on the virtual platform at its scheduled time. The recording of the video will be available to watch-on-demand within 36 hours of the session start time on the virtual platform until April 1st at 5pm PT.

Kirby, Neil

Title: Senior Lecturer

Company: The Ohio State University

Neil Kirby is a Senior Lecturer in the Computer Science and Engineering department at the Ohio State University. There he teaches the Design, Development, and Documentation of Interactive Systems class as well as the introductory database and systems classes. Before he returned to OSU, Neil was a Member of Technical Staff at Nokia, home of Bell Laboratories. There he developed .NET + database solutions used extensively in the Wireless business unit. Prior assignments included architecture consulting, speech recognition, and operations and support systems. Neil co-founded the IGDA Foundation and serves as secretary on its board. With help from the AI Summit team he oversees the selection of the Eric Dybsand AI Memorial Scholar. He also assists with the Scholars, Next Generation Leaders, and Velocity programs. Neil is a section editor in the Game AI Pro series of books. He is the author of An Introduction to game AI. His other publications include articles in volumes I, II, and IV of AI Game Programming Wisdom. He co-wrote “Effective Requirements Traceability: Models, Tools and Practices” for the Bell Labs Technical Journal. His 1991 paper, "Artificial Intelligence Without AI: An evolutionary Approach" may well show the first use of what is now known as "circle strafing" in a game.

Schiel, Andrea

Title: Principal AI Engineer

Company: Microsoft

Andrea has been working in AI for over 20 years and in the games industry back when the internet was being born. Currently she works as the lead AI architect for World’s Edge studio (Xbox, Microsoft: Age of Empires franchise) and as an AI developer on the Age of Empires games. She’s worked on everything from sports games to RTS to FPS and has previously spoken at GDC 2017. You can find her on LinkedIn or hanging out at the AI Summit. Her passions include bridging the diverse worlds of research and engineering. In addition to actively coding, she works with the bright minds of Microsoft Research, experimenting in the field of reinforcement learning.
