Thirsty Suitors is a visually striking narrative RPG about fighting your exes and disappointing your parents from an immigrant perspective while turn-based battling, cooking, and skating. This talk will showcase how Outerloop Games combined 2D and 3D techniques to create a compelling, illustrative look with a fully remote, small indie art team. We'll discuss how the cultural aspects of the team lead to the stylistic visual direction and themes in Thirsty Suitors. How we leveraged and designed for the strengths of the team, looked for scalable solutions, and how we believe specificity of experience and fantasy can be universal in appeal.
Attendees will learn about approaches that focus on the strengths of the art team to create striking visuals, how cultural aspects and themes can make for compelling art, and how to leverage freely available tools and techniques.
