This roundtable discussion will be focused on the different approaches and techniques to running an audio department. Some of the topics covered include: creative ownership, leadership styles, interdepartmental relations, management styles and team culture. We will also discuss the impact of the pandemic on working methods, WFH, how we review work and give feedback, hybrid working methods and the future of game audio teams.
This talk will not only benefit audio directors but all members of the audio department as attendees are encouraged to participate and share their own experiences and perspectives regarding the topics of discussion. Working towards the goal of determining best practices for their own audio department, department heads and department members alike will leave with fresh perspectives in regards to each other's roles.
Department heads take away new ideas on how to run their department, solutions to uncommon issues, and a sense of perspective from their team members. Department members take away a better understanding of what their directors have to deal with and improvements they can bring back to their own department.
While the discussion is led by audio directors, it revolves around the entire department experience. The audience consists of any member of the audio department including sound designers of all varieties (junior, senior and technical), audio QA, music and dialog editors, as well as directors themselves.
