This talk will explore inclusive production practices within the audio discipline, using the upcoming project “Tell Me Why” as a case study. This episodic narrative-adventure from DONTNOD Entertainment and XBOX Publishing features the first playable trans character from a major studio and publisher. The talk will spotlight how we as game professionals can increase the diversity of perspectives in games, and respectfully represent communities who have been historically underrepresented, through intentional day-to-day decisions and interdisciplinary collaboration. We will review the inclusive production approaches employed on “Tell Me Why”, including cultural and regional research, deep partnerships with community advocates, authentic casting and localization, and script auditing.


Attendees to this talk will gain an understanding of what inclusive production practices are, as well as detailed examples of how they were applied during the creation of Tell Me Why, an upcoming title from XBOX Publishing and DONTNOD Entertainment.
