With the explosive growth of smart speakers and the realization of the potential of voice interactions, voice is becoming the new touch. This interaction revolution also extends to games. This presentation will provide an overview of the history of voice-activated games, discuss how the explosive growth of smart speakers are advancing the format, review popular genres and titles, discuss the design, implementation and technical challenges, and end with a discussion around what the future could bring.


Attendees will leave with an understanding of the history of voice-activated games from its origins until the current state of the art, what markets and devices are driving their adoption, what are the design, technical and implementation challenges, and have a glimpse of where they may be going next.
