Setting clear expectations about job performance not only helps ensure those expectations are met, benefitting the business, but also fosters a better work place environment, helping the employees. Many large and established organizations have the resources to develop or acquire tools to help them do this, but smaller organizations often do not have that luxury. This talk will re-introduce a career development toolkit that is freely available, designed to help managers grow and develop their team, or to help individuals manage their own growth. By providing specific examples of how expectations grow as one moves through their career, this talk will demystify the art of career development.

First introduced at GDC Online 2011, the career development toolkit has been updated to reflect the growing awareness of the importance of diversity and inclusion, ensuring that it continues to be a valuable resource for the video games industry.

Attendees, whether new in their careers, or those hiring and growing others, will come away with a clear framework for describing how expectations increase through one's career, as well as the foundational competencies that support the role specific work.

Intended Audience

This talk is appropriate for those new in their career, as well as those involved in developing the careers of others.
