Making games in the 21st century is a global thing. Not only is the market international, but increasingly game teams as well. In this context, most game developers are confronted with collaboration in some form either within their teams, with their organization or with external partners. These collaborations are not always successful and sometime lead to toxic relation and project failure. This talk aims to empower leaders of all levels into leveraging collaboration as a strength and counter their negative effects early. This is an accumulated body of insights and practices drawn from multiple projects such as 'Ghost Recon Future Soldier', 'Assassin's Creed', and 'Rainbow Six Siege' but also as a tech provider both at Ubisoft and Wargaming where international co-devs are the norm.
Participants will leave with practical recipes to frame their collaborations successfully and tools to asses when it is going wrong and what to do about it.
This talk is aimed at production managers and leads who deal with multi-site development. It is oriented for international co-devs but all practices are applicable to local collaboration as well.
