This talk is a craft-focused retrospective looking at the animation of the Garm boss fight and level-specific sequences.

Jack Ebensteiner, Lead Character Animator at Sony Santa Monica Studio, will cover some high-level challenges of large creature animation as well as the specific challenges involved with the giant chain-wielding wolf. He will also discuss posing and timing for monster-scale characters, managing a high volume of hand keyed animation, leveraging the camera to maximize impact and readability, and the influence large creature animation has on gameplay.


Attendees will learn strategies for approaching animating giant monsters, tips for effective cameras, and things to consider when animating for combat animation on a large scale.
