Videogames: Design/Play/Disrupt' was an acclaimed headline exhibition on contemporary video game design and culture at the V&A (Victoria and Albert Museum, London). The exhibition brought together rarely seen artifacts from the design process of ground-breaking contemporary video games, alongside newly commissioned AV exhibits and immersive installations. In this in-depth talk, the exhibition's lead curator, Marie Foulston (Wild/Mild Rumpus) will discuss the show's conception, insights into the curatorial research and practice, and will reflect on the show’s ambition to define a new curatorial language for the medium.
Attendees will gain insights into the history behind creating a headline exhibition at a major cultural institution. This talk will cover the curatorial challenges faced in bringing video game design into such spaces and an overview of the different design disciplines needed to realize such an exhibition.
This talk is intended for attendees interested in the exhibition and curation of video game design within cultural institutions and public spaces. The talk also highlights the design processes of creating real world exhibitions and large scale immersive AV installations. No previous knowledge of exhibition curation or design is required.
