During 12 years in CD PROJEKT RED, Paweł has contributed to multiple games, including 3 expansions: Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine for The Witcher 3, and most recently, Phantom Liberty, for Cyberpunk 2077. The lecture contains lessons learned from designing these games – everything from choosing themes, designing plots, and expanding gameplay features in a way that creates a consistent whole with the base games.

Takeaway

This lecture goes into detail in regards of how designing AAA expansions could be done, to provide the players with compelling products, and enriching base game experiences, while staying true to the identity of a given IP. During the talk topics such as production strategies for new gameplay and content, choice of themes, design of the plot and gameplay features are explored. Audience will learn how design of AAA expansions is done in CD PROJEKT RED.

Intended Audience

The session is designed for game directors, designers, and producers, who are involved in making key decisions in regard of the focus points of the new game, with special emphasis on expansions. Attendees should have knowledge of production methodologies, a basic understanding of themes and storytelling for interactive media. Gameplay expertise would be welcomed as well, especially in the RPG field.
