Man of Medan, the first instalment of Supermassive Games' The Dark Pictures Anthology, has an innovative Shared Story mode that allows two networked players to experience interactive cinematic horror together. Game Director Tom Heaton details the motivation behind creating the new mode and explains the design process, including looking at the in-house tool that allows Supermassive's team to create the complex branching narratives that drive their games. Heaton will detail some of the design solutions the team developed in order to make the Shared Story mode completely seamless and will outline some of the problems and pitfalls that the developers encountered, as well as looking at possible future areas for innovation.


Attendees will gain an understanding of the problems inherent in creating a compelling branching narrative for two players, as well as knowledge of the processes and design solutions which contributed to the success of Man of Medan's Shared Story mode.
