This session will cover how the art direction for Diablo 2: Resurrected achieved modern visual fidelity in a 3D version of a remastered 2D game and some of the pipelines that allowed us to achieve this vision. Dustin will cover the initial decisions made before and during pre-production, the key pillars for Diablo 2: Resurrected that guided it's production, and how the different art disciplines tackled challenges along the way to ensure they stayed on time and at a very high fidelity bar. Dustin will go over making decisions that balance the nostalgic love for such an iconic game while still bringing it to modern AAA standards.
Attendees will get a behind the curtain peek for early decision making and why those decisions where made, processes for small teams to achieve grand scale, and troubleshooting art direction while building an engine and tools during production.
This talk is intended for any level of artist or game developer interested in remastering and remake styled visual development from pre-production through shipping the final product.
