Halo: Infinite is the first Halo game to feature bots in multiplayer, and the team started with a clear design goal: create AI that helped players learn how to play and enjoy a multiplayer experience with a twenty-year history. This will be an in-depth look at how the Halo: Infinite team tackled the problem of getting AI bots to strafe, bounce grenades, and capture flags the way that players do. By modeling good player behaviors and meeting players where they are in terms of skill, bots help provide a more welcoming place to experience multiplayer for new and returning players alike.


Attendees will learn how the Halo: Infinite team introduced bots to Halo multiplayer for the first time. The talk covers how high-level design philosophy informed their engineering architecture and priorities, and the team will share some of their learnings and pitfalls to avoid for teams attempting a similar effort.
