Insurrection 1944 is a location-based mixed reality experience presenting an epic chapter in French history, the liberation of Paris from Nazi occupiers near the end of World War II. This experience – a Grand Prize winner in the Paris 360° Film Festival – combines the real world underground headquarters of the French Resistance along with interactive experiences and virtual characters to give historical insight to museum visitors. Come and learn how we tackled problems such as guiding thousands of new MR users through the experience, providing simple interaction techniques, creating compelling lifelike characters, and working within the constraints of a real environment using HoloLens headsets.
The audience will learn about how virtual guides can mentor the user, how to provide simple interactions for users unfamiliar with MR, and creating interaction experiences that merge seamlessly with an existing environment. We'll talk about the decisions we made around creating realistic historical characters, along with design considerations for HoloLens1 and HoloLens2 headsets.
A wide variety of people can benefit from this talk, including museum curators, producers, creative directors, interaction designers, and script writers. The talk is useful for individuals working in fields ranging from entertainment to cultural arts, education, tourism and location based entertainment. Technologists working with HoloLens, motion capture and performance capture will also find the talk valuable.
