Great games come from extremely creative and passionate developers. While essential, that same passion can lead to conflict, even toxicity. Improving emotional intelligence (EQ) skills can help developers of all disciplines and skill levels navigate intense emotional situations. Kayla Belmore, Producer at Gearbox software, will talk about some of the science behind these emotional reactions, and sources of stress in the workplace. She'll also illustrate helpful tips and tools for de-escalating high stress situation (using FBI Crisis management technique), mediation strategies, and controlling your own stress reactions. All of these suggestions have been battle tested and refined during the development of Borderlands 3.

Attendees will gain a better understanding of what happens to our bodies and minds during the Fight, Flight, Freeze stress response. Learn how to spot stress in the workplace (body language queues), methods of deescalating emotional situations (crisis negotiation), and how to better manage their own emotional responses (bottom-up grounding).
