Mae's lecture examines how early childhood development plays a major role in who develops into a professional gamer and why that matters to the question of "Why aren't there more women esports professionals". Using data collected from Western gamers across different ages, economic backgrounds, and level of play she begins to outline a map of how professional players reach game Mastery, the path of that journey, and where in the process young girls are getting a late start. She also looks into the future to postulate what it will take to see more female player professionals and when a significant shift of more female players may be seen.

Takeaway

Why building programs and shifting cultural norms away from gender stereotyping is beneficial to creating a more inclusive esports professional landscape.
