The recent introduction of NFTs into video games represents a major shift in the industry toward Web 3.0. This has given rise to the play-to-earn model in games, also revolutionary in allowing players to own in-game items as NFTs with the option of creating and obtaining even more NFTs by playing the game. Using Habbo, a 21+ year old free-to-play virtual community and gaming platform, as an example, this talk will discuss bringing an old, established IP with a global fanbase of 330M registered users into the future of Web 3.0 through blockchain and supplemental NFTs, and how play-to-earn will change the gaming landscape.
Attendees will learn about the play-to-earn model and how the model will benefit the players, as they're able to own the digital content themselves and eventually earn with it.
The session will benefit game developers and game industry professionals eager to learn more about the play to earn model. In the session I will briefly and visually explain how blockchain and NFT's function, so no prerequisite knowledge is needed.
