Game developers have real power to tackle the climate crisis. The IGDA Climate SIG serves to establish grassroots climate councils on every major game company and ensure meaningful climate action is actionable and accessible for everyone who makes and play games. Change is happening - and game developers are leading the conversation. Since 2021, we established community-led workstreams focused on setting a strong foundation of shared, actionable knowledge. From climate conscious game and energy efficient design patterns, we have gathered information and started building resources for climate action - made FOR game developers BY game developers, researchers, and students. We'll be providing a recap of what we've created and learned to date. We want your collaboration and input - not only on what is most useful, but what we may be missing, and what we as a global community can do to keep making and playing games we love on this little blue dot.
Takeaway
The IGDA Climate SIG, a global grassroots initiative aligned with the UN Playing for the Planet Alliance, is creating and supporting projects that can help create industry climate action; build power-saving software design patterns; and inspire meaningful climate-conscious design. Participants can get connected to climate projects in the gaming industry.
Intended Audience
Open to all, especially those ready to act and interested in joining a warm, growing community of game developers, researchers, scientists, educators, and enthusiasts passionate about leveraging the power of games to help solve the climate crisis.
