In the last decade, studios and publishers have repeatedly denied the political ramifications and meanings of their works, feeding into a cultural war over the place and meaning of the term 'politics' when it comes to games. In this talk, Greg Buchanan (No Man's Sky: Atlas Rises, Metro Exodus) discusses whether, why, and when it is useful to talk about politics in games, ranging from discussions of Spec Ops: The Line, The Last of Us, and the recent games of Ubisoft to his own recent acclaimed narrative work, American Election.
