Audience Level: All

This year, the WHO began reaching out to the video game audio community and invited those involved in the game industry and esports to participate in their June 2023 Make Listening Safe consultation. One of the outcomes of the June meeting was recognition of the need to make the game industry better aware of issues around listening safety.

This roundtable will be the 2nd "in person" meeting of a interested of game designers, sound designers and game hardware makers to continue work on a "Best Practices" for game developers to help ensure that the games we make can be played and enjoyed while minimizing the impact on our players' hearing health.

Takeaway

Attendees will leave with a better understanding hearing health, and how small changes in how we create games may be able to affect the hearing health of our players

Attendees will also be able to actively participate in discussions around the topic, and feel like their input is heard.

Intended Audience

Sound Designers, Game Designers, Game Accessibility specialists will all be able to participate in the creation of a 'best practices' document, and also be invited to continue discussion after GDC is over.
