Topic: Entertainment VR/AR

Format: Session

Vault Recording: TBD

Audience Level: All

Taylor Gates of FarBridge gives an in-depth look at the creation of educational VR applications 'MasterWorks: Journey Through History' and 'My Virtual Armenia'. These experiences combine high resolution LIDAR scans, photogrammetry, and expert interviews to create photo-realistic recreations of famous historical landmarks that users can explore and learn from, including Mount Rushmore and historic sites across four continents.

Working with historic sites presented many new challenges and opportunities throughout development. Gates offers insights on the design choices, developmental hurdles, and innovative solutions discovered in the process of recreating real-life places across seven platforms.

Attendees gain insight into designing multi-platform educational VR experiences, how to organize teams and resources to author "the same content" with differing complexity, how to develop and deploy between PC, mobile, and standalone VR, and how to take content out of the VR headset for easy demonstration.

Intended Audience

Developers looking for meaty discussion on educational and location-based VR can gain insight into simultaneous-shipping pitfalls, as well as the different types of team structures, resources, design strategies, and production methods needed to successfully launch on the newest platforms.
