Topic: Independent Games

Format: Session

Vault Recording: TBD

Audience Level: Yes

Accessibility in games can be an overwhelming world of guidance, advice and opinion about what is important. When working on a budget, tight timelines, or limited person-power, this can result in discussion over which options to include, or worse, debate about which players to leave out of your game. This presentation will provide data from players with disabilities regarding which options are necessary pre-requisites for many players to play your games, as well as how different options are valued by a wide variety of different players making it so everyone can game and have accessible player experiences.

Attendees will take away not only why accessibility is important and can open your game to a broad audience, but also present data from players with disabilities on what options are pre-requisites for many players to get into your game so that you can prioritize your resources to create as accessible an experience as possible.

Intended Audience

This session is open to anyone who creates games. The presentation will provide a brief overview of accessibility and the variety of options available, using the Accessible Player Experience (APX) Design Patterns to frame the discussion of what options you might include in your game.
