Independent Games Summit: 'Unpacking' Fan Expectations and Driving Engagement Post-Launch

Emily Hummel  (Community & Social Media Manager, Witch Beam Games)

Pass Type: All Access Pass, Summits Pass, Independent Games Summit Pass

Topic: Independent Games

Format: Lecture

Vault Recording: TBD

Audience Level: All

Unpacking has had an incredibly busy year since its launch—and, as a result, its social and community needed to develop a more robust plan to manage things. How can someone thread the needle between communicating to the fans that the game is complete as-is, but also keep them engaged for new announcements, like additional platforms and merchandise?

In this talk, Unpacking community and social media manager Emily Hummel will discuss steps you can take to plan out what things look like after launch—including how to determine if you need additional help—and sharing tools like templates and calendars that help make that easier. She'll also cover managing the shift from pre-and-post launch in Discord and on social media platforms like Twitter and TikTok, and how creative experimentation can keep fans new and old engaged in new ways.

Takeaway

Attendees will learn concrete steps to take to develop their post-launch social plan, understanding of how communities and social media shift and how to respond to it, using templates to make things easier on small teams, and ways to use social media in experimental ways to drive new sales and ongoing engagement.

Intended Audience

This is for indie developers looking for support on planning what happens after a game's launch, and community and social media managers in search of new tips, techniques, and solutions to save time and create new and engaging content.
