Void Bastards is a strategic shooter. As a strategic game it's a dense web of interconnected systems, and as a shooter there's a lot of spatial gameplay. To our surprise, this meant nearly every gameplay system impacted our primary mechanism for dynamically adjusting the play space: Doors.

This session packs in many of the small design discoveries and missteps we made throughout Void Bastards' development, with a heavy but nonexclusive door-focus.

Takeaway

Attendees will take away a grab bag of design discoveries in sub-fields ranging from level design to gamepad assists, AI behaviour, player testing and gameplay variation.
