In this session, Tenghao Wang, Senior Technical Artist at Santa Monica Studio, gives a detailed breakdown of how to achieve a high level of fidelity skin deformation with joint based rigging in the new God of War.
He will present a systematic joint-based rig to fit the curve fiber structure of the muscle to achieve volume preservation, as well as discuss the implementation details of a new dynamic bone technique that can be used to approximate muscle, fat, and skin jiggle effect. In addition, Tenghao will showcase how this technique can enhance the impact feel of combat,
Takeaway
Attendees will learn about a new systematic joint-based rig that approximate muscular system to achieve a high level of fidelity skin deformation in God of War Ragnarök. In addition, attendees will learn about a new technique that used to bring a sense of realism to the character by adding subtle, secondary motion to the skin.
Intended Audience
This is for technical animators, technical artists, and animation programmers who are interested in creature deformation and runtime dynamic rigging. Basic knowledge about rigging and linear algebra is recommended.
