Just Cause 4 is an Open World and Physics Sandbox game filled with rich physical interaction and destruction. This talk presents the basics of Avalanche's Open World game engine (Apex) and the most important performance optimization techniques developed for the physics simulation of Just Cause 4, its extreme weather and destruction.


The audience will have gained an understanding of the most challenging problems of the physics of an open world game like Just Cause 4 and how they were addressed during production. Attendees will acquire insight in the most important optimizations employed, with a focus on physics and the CPU part of the game. They will also have a gained a holistic view of the overall production process that influences simulation performance and the crucial measures we put in place to guarantee a good frame rate of the game.
