A technical walkthrough on the development of a virtualized geometry technology that can be integrated with any game engine, and an overview of the challenges faced.
The talk explores how Virtuos achieved optimal performance with ultra high-resolution meshes, thanks to a multitude of different techniques - automatic split of mesh LODs, data streaming, occlusion culling at the chunk level, data compression, and more.
Other experimental features, such as geomorphing to enable smooth transition between LODs, will also be discussed.


A framework for developing technologies that can be applied to many different engines, and insights into how to develop virtualized geometry technology for proprietary engines. Algorithms such as geomorphing, decimation, and direct acyclic graph creation and traversal are discussed.

Intended Audience

Technical directors, programmers, and technical artists interested in rendering technologies and how to support high fidelity meshes while keeping their scenes performant. An understanding of algorithms used in graphics rendering is recommended.
