Despite rising awareness, people in the industry who are traditionally marginalized due to gender still endure environments or behaviors that make them feel less than welcome or even unsafe. They may also experience negative and sometimes harmful comments from other developers both at work and in the industry at large. In this roundtable, attendees are invited to share these experiences and how they handled them in the moment and beyond. From self-care to coalition-building, attendees will have the chance to volunteer best practices on how to navigate microagressions or abuse wherever they are in their career. The roundtable will also offer the opportunity to generate ideas on what the industry can do as a whole to create a supportive work environment.
Takeaway
Attendees will come away with ideas on how to navigate microaggressions and abuse within their workplace and the industry.
Intended Audience
The intended audience for this session are people who are marginalized in the industry due to gender, whether working in the games industry, looking to break in, or interested in the game development field in any capacity. We explicitly invite everyone to be part of this session, but would like to once more ask cisgender men attending to use the opportunity to listen and learn.
