With the transition to building Destiny, Bungie moved from a lightweight back-end to a fully service driven infrastructure. Coming from a windows-focused background, the team had to build many systems from scratch, and build out an architecture that could handle Destiny's scale. This talk covers the services architecture Bungie has built to support Destiny, what we've learned during Destiny's lifetime, and how we will be growing that architecture in the future.
Attendees will leave the session with an understanding of one model for building out a game service architecture, along with pitfalls and tradeoffs of that model. They will also come away with best practices and philosophy for building and maintaining an online service.
This session is intended for engineers who maintain game services or for those who are looking for insight in building out a new game service.
