This is a data-driven talk based on survey data from 400,000+ gamers. We used cluster analysis to identify distinct player types. For each segment, we'll describe its key motivation drivers and list popular game titles within the audience. We'll visualize the distances and relationships between the segments, and overlay demographic trends (i.e., gender, age, casual/core/hardcore). We'll also highlight unexpected motivation profiles and discuss implications (e.g., a segment with strong motivations from different motivation categories).
Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of a data-driven model of gamer motivations, and a sweeping view of the major player types, their motivation drivers, and opportunities for bridging to existing markets or tapping into an unexpected player segment.
