Audience Level: All

In this talk, the Creative Director of 'Assassin's Creed Odyssey', Jonathan Dumont, gives a look at the creative and design philosophies behind the transformation of one of Ubisoft's flagship franchises into a full role-playing game with choices and consequences as a center point of the experience. Learn how the team gave life to this vision, allowing players to go from spectators to participants in the narrative, making history their playground more than ever. Going from character development, design philosophy, and creating a dialogue tool to modifying the iteration process and production structure, the conference will present how the team had to change their approach to support this new creative vision.

Attendees will learn about the design philosophy behind the transformation of an established franchise into an open world RPG and choice-driven experience, the core fundamentals on creating an autonomy-driven narrative in a historical world, the narrative process, the tools they developed and how they structured their production to achieve it.

Intended Audience

Developers who are considering making an open world RPG with choice-driven dialogues. There is no need to be an expert in any field. Anyone interested in design philosophy, character development, player psychology, open world RPG and game writing (and also Assassin's Creed!).
