This talk will go over the ways in which the speaker has used their game design background in non-traditional ways to carve out a serious games niche for their career. The speaker will provide examples from his history as well as advice for attendees seeking an alternative to the traditional game industry career path and a way to continue to grow and progress as a game developer outside the hyper competitive major studios or in locations where there are traditionally less game jobs. An emphasis on how game development and design can be used in unexpected ways can be inspirational in finding new creative outlets and financial stability.
Attendees of this session will hopefully take away that there are many uses for their game development skills, and that with the right idea they can create wonderful opportunities for themselves instead of needing to out work the hundreds of applicants for traditional game jobs.
This talk is intended for anyone currently wondering what their next step in their career should be. From current students to people just looking for a change. No technical knowledge or hardware is needed.
