Video game adaptation often comes with interesting challenges and constraints, and more so when you adapt from, well, another video game. Did we mention it needs to be in LEGO bricks?

From the initial creative vision to the final stage of refinement, Guerrilla's Stephane Varrault and Studio Gobo's Xu Xiaojun will take us through the process of translating PlayStation's Horizon Zero Dawn into playful brick form. They will discuss the game design decisions to promote creativity and encourage collaboration. The talk will share how the team adapts familiar mechanics from the original game, as well as go over some challenges to innovate from an established LEGO game formula and create a fresh experience for a broad audience.

Takeaway

The attendees will gain insight of the game design process of the first Lego game adapted from a video game franchise, and learn from the developers' lessons creating a new IP for a different audience group.

Intended Audience

This talk is intended for experienced game designers interested in designing for broad audiences as well as game adaptations. The rational consideration and analytical approach is relevant for game designers of all levels.
