Tabletop Summit: 'SolForge Fusion': Creating the World's First Hybrid Deck Game

Format: Lecture

Vault Recording: Video

Audience Level: All

Legendary game designers Richard Garfield (Magic: The Gathering) and Justin Gary (Ascension) join to talk about their new endeavor, SolForge Fusion.

A hybrid deck game for the digital age, SolForge Fusion uses algorithms to create unique decks. This gets around the traditional pitfalls of modern trading card games: chasing high-cost rare cards, eternally following the metagame for the best netdecks, and the disconnect between online and paper play.

Garfield and Gary will cover their design process, the guiding principles behind SolForge Fusion and the core gameplay, as well as the game's community and event organizing system.

Takeaway

Attendees will learn how SolForge Fusion is working to disrupt the collectible trading card game environment by listening to players instead of treating them like open wallets, by innovating in both the mechanics underlying the game—as well as the rollout of a new card game, physically and digitally.

Intended Audience

This is for card game developers, community organizers, and marketers, as well as store owners.
