Eric Weitzel (Senior Technical Artist, Electronic Arts)

Pass Type: All Access Pass, Core+Summits Pass, Summits Pass - Get your pass now!

Topic: Visual Arts

Format: Session

Vault Recording: TBD

Audience Level: All

The amount of content in our games grows every year, and the opportunity for error grows with it. Having a robust content validation system in place is more important than ever. In this session, Eric will (re)introduce the fundamentals of content validation while providing an in-depth look at one of EA's more widely-used validation suites written for the Frostbite engine. The talk will explore how a well-designed validation system can enable teams to track the technical validity of their content on a day-to-day basis and allow teams to grow their library of validation rules as production needs evolve. He'll discuss such concepts as pre-validation, automated validation and reporting, rule prioritization, managing exceptions to rules, and fixing issues right from within validation software.

Attendees should leave with a fuller understanding of the many considerations around designing, implementing and maintaining content validation software, and a greater appreciation for its importance. They'll be able to take these learnings and apply them to their own validation system.

Intended Audience

This talk targets Technical Artists and anyone else responsible for managing the technical validation of their game's content.
