This talk describes how the silo approach for creating the narrative of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt had to be reimagined to support the realtime first-person reality of Cyberpunk 2077. It deep dives into how the often-seen position of a Narrative Designer has been split into three separate instances, and what was the pros and cons of doing so.
It also covers how this high-level concept is reflected in the toolset used to create the game, and why it is important for all departments to work simultaneously in the same software.
Takeaway
Attendees will gain a general understanding of the advantages of working collaboratively in specialized tools, allowing people from different backgrounds to fill in the blanks and create a superior, artificial Narrative Designer person, as well as have some insight into creation of a narrative for AAA scale.
Intended Audience
This is for designers interested in learning about game narrative creation approaches, along with people who create or design tools involved in game narrative creation.
