Learn about the narrative systems of REDengine 4, the engine used to create Cyberpunk 2077. This session will showcase changes and improvements made to the engine based on previous systems, and how the simple wish to create everything a designer can dream of influenced the tools design for the narrative department. The presentation will illustrate the advantages and disadvantages of complex visual scripting tools based on different engine and tool iterations, and provide tips and guidance when creating your own narrative engine setup for your games.
Attendees will get insight into the tools used to create the narrative experience of Cyberpunk 2077. They will gain an understanding of complex storytelling tools, what challenges it will present to their teams in both usage and creation, as well as ideas on how to improve your toolset in both usability and complexity.
This talk is intended for both narrative designers (writers, quest designers, cinematic designers) and tool designers/programmers for narrative tools. The talk will be broadly accessible and not require any knowledge of programming, however some general knowledge on visual scripting & narrative implementation may be helpful.
