The freelance life is a difficult—though often rewarding—path through the industry. And whether it's your chosen road or one you're forced to walk occasionally while between full-time jobs, almost all of us face it eventually.

How do we navigate that road, and what steps can we take to help make it a smoother (and more profitable) journey? This talk will present hard won insights from the 15-year career of a full-time freelancer, including tips on how to start your career, how to keep your career... and how to stay sane while you're doing it. Anecdotes will be plentiful; names will be changed.

Attendees will come away with a deeper understanding of what it takes to maintain a freelance career, as well as useful advice for doing so.

Intended Audience

This talk is aimed primarily at people who make their living freelancing in the games industry, but it will also provide useful insights for those looking to hire freelancers and provide tips for best practices in working with them.
