Jane CocksPsychology & Games Researcher, ConsultantIndependent

Jane Cocks is a PhD Candidate at the Engage Research Lab at the University of the Sunshine Coast. Her research sits on the intersection between Psychology and Game Design, and her PhD is focused on developing a framework for designing games for behavior change grounded in psychology. Jane has completed degrees in Behavioral Science and Health Science, Psychology Honors, and has previously worked as a Psychology Researcher in research groups at Flinders University, University of Adelaide, and the University of South Australia. Common themes throughout her research have been resilience and positive health outcomes. During her PhD Candidature, Jane has spoken extensively about serious games, the psychology of games, and the relationship between games and mental health, at national and international events. Jane is passionate about contributing to the Australian Games Community, and as such has been recently appointed to the boards of both the Australian chapter of DiGRA (Digital Games Research Association), and WiDGET (Women in Games, Development, and Everything Tech). Jane has been awarded by MCV Pacific as one of the top 100 Women in Games in 2016, and as one of the Top 30 Women in the Game Changers List in 2017. She was also a finalist for the 2017 MCV Pacific XBox Campaigner Award, recognising Women in the Games Industry who have worked for a games-related charity, or community, to use games as a force for change, inclusion, education or improvement.
