Sonia is an Associate Professor of Media and Game Studies at the Cologne Game Lab at TH Köln - University of Applied Sciences as well as co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Gaming and Virtual Worlds. Her research focuses on media aesthetics of computer play, work and play, and more recently, sustainability of video games. She is coordinating an international project “Greening Games”, the aim of which is to develop, test and distribute materials on teaching greener game production, design and game culture (www.greeningames.eu). In her upcoming book Playing at a Distance (MIT Press 2022), she explores the borderlands of video game aesthetic with focus on automation, AI and posthuman forms of play. In 2022 Sonia was a speaker at the Digital Games Research Association annual conference and will be keynoting at the Central and Eastern European Game Studies conference as well as at gameZ & ruleZ at Zurich University of the Arts.
