David Hellman, lead artist, co-director, Furniture & Mattress
David Hellman is an artist working in video games, comics and animation. His work for landmark indie Braid (2008, remastered in 2024) is well-remembered as an early example of painterly and idiosyncratic presentation enabled and popularized by new online distribution channels for consoles. Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure (2024) was his second game as art lead; he is also one of the game's three co-directors and a co-founder of the company, Furniture and Mattress. On the comics side, David made the formally-restless web comic A Lesson Is Learned But The Damage Is Irreversible (2006-) and graphic novel Second Quest (2015), which reflects critically on overly hand-holding adventure games.
