Mary Hermes, PhD (Waabishkiimiigwan) is a full professor of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. She works as an Ojibwe language activist, creating software, materials, documentation and publications. Over the 25 years she has held this position, she has both investigated innovative ways of acquiring endangered indigenous languages, while also creating the materials to support these innovations. Additionally, she is the Director of Grassroots Indigenous Multimedia (GIM), the non-profit that is producing, Reclaim! The Ojibwe video game. A person of mixed racial heritage, she has been a community member at the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Reservation in northern wisconsin for 30 years.
