Russell Kay is head of the GameMaker team and is responsible for technology and overall product vision and development.
Before joining YoYo Games, which was later acquired by Opera, Russell was the senior software architect at Realtime Worlds, where he oversaw the “MyWorld” project.
Russell also founded Visual Sciences, working for publishers like Take 2, Sony, and Electronic Arts on AAA video game titles including the F1 series, Harry Potter games, “Medal of Honor”, “Grand Theft Auto”, and “Myst”.
Prior to founding Visual Sciences, Russell was a co-founder and head of PC programming at DMA Design (now Rockstar North), where he created the PC version of “Lemmings” - widely regarded as the best game of the 90s - before leaving to start Visual Sciences.
Russell is a visiting professor of computer games technology at Abertay University in Scotland, and a founding member of the Dundee University Applied Computing Department Industrial Advisory Board. He earned a degree in computer science from Dundee University.
