Stephen McAuley is the Lead Rendering Programmer at Sony's Santa Monica Studio, where he has just finished work on God of War: Ragnarök. Born in the UK, he studied mathematics at the University of Cambridge before getting his start in video games at Bizarre Creations in Liverpool in 2006. There he worked as a Graphics Programmer on numerous Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 titles, before the company closed in 2011 and he moved to Montreal to work for Ubisoft on the Far Cry franchise. While he was at Ubisoft, he was promoted to a Technical Lead role, overseeing the rendering programmers on the project. Then in 2020, he moved to Los Angeles to work for Santa Monica Studio on their PlayStation titles. Stephen's passion is improving the rendering of film, games and the whole computer graphics community, from the visual quality of his own games to running internal and external training conferences. He currently lives in Edmonton, Alberta.
