Kim NordstromCEOPLAYERUNKNOWN Productions

Kim Nordström is the CEO and Head of Studio at PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions, where he collaborates with Brendan "PLAYERUNKNOWN" Greene to develop expansive open-world games. He is also the author of "UP DOWN UP: Why Some Game Companies Succeed, While Others Fail," a book that distills insights from over 100 interviews with industry leaders to navigate the complexities of success and failure in the gaming world. Nordström's journey in the gaming industry began in his teenage years, releasing his first game on the Commodore 64 in the early 1990s. By the age of 25, he founded his first game studio, leading multiple studios over the next decade. In a bold move, he relocated to California with his family to contribute to the development of the PlayStation 4. He later joined King, where he led the "Pet Rescue Saga" franchise, generating over $500 million in revenue and expanding the studio to more than 100 employees. At Paradox Interactive, Nordström ventured into business innovation and strategy, focusing on live experiments to enhance player engagement and monetization. With over 50 shipped games across 10+ platforms, he now dedicates his time to advising and coaching CEOs, founders, and leaders in the gaming industry through his company, Exploding Fist. Beyond his professional endeavors, Nordström is a Swedish native residing in Spain, a former 8-bit console collector, and occasionally indulges in coding and pixel art.
