Nika NourExecutive DirectorIGDA Foundation

Born to immigrant parents from Iran, Nika was one of many first-generation Americans who fell victim to bullying following 9/11. After successfully testing out of school, she enrolled in college at the age of 14. Nika turned to video games as a refuge from her trouble and eventually took this passion to the non-profit sector, where she now serves as Executive Director and a voice for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) at the International Game Developers Association Foundation (IGDA-F). In response to COVID-19, Nika pivoted in-person GDC scholarships to an online format. Her resolve to empower the next generation of diverse talent propelled collaborative experiences such as the Black in Gaming Awards, the Latinx in Gaming Conference, and online fundraisers. Under Nika’s leadership, IGDA-F built scalable-able virtual programs for early to mid-career developers seeking jobs and professional options in 14 countries. Former Head of Public Affairs for the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), she took a leading role in emphasizing the industry’s pledge to DEI. In that capacity, Nika led public affairs messaging and community outreach, while focusing on public policies, refuting President Trump’s video game violence claims, and expanding STEM education initiatives. Before joining ESA, Nika Nour served as Internet Association’s communications director. There, she was responsible for digital advocacy efforts and congressional programming. A veteran of creating public policy content, Nika was the New Media Specialist for the U.S. Congress. While advancing DEI in video games, Nika is concurrently a PhD Informatics student at University of California of Irvine researching the implications of deepfakes and the Chief Strategy Officer at Liminal Esports. A Bravo TV star and two-time Ironman finisher, Nika earned her Masters of Science in Biodefense at George Mason University and her Masters of Arts in Strategic Public Relations at George Washington University.
