Bret Staudt Willet, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Instructional Systems and Learning Technologies. Bret researches self-directed networked learning. He’s interested in what happens when students, learners, and trainees finish formal instruction and training. What do they do after they walk out the door or log off? How do they continue to develop their knowledge, skills, and abilities? Where do they look for resources? Who do they talk to? The possibilities of self-directed learning include self-initiated support systems during career transition, and the perils include having to figure out job tasks outside work hours.
