Ari GassAssistant ProfessorDrexel University

Ari Gass (they/them) is an Assistant Professor of Digital Media at Drexel University. They are a scholar-practitioner with a focus on feminist and queer theoretical approaches to computational media. Their research explores how the technologies that facilitate gameplay (and, increasingly, appear on stage and in film) impact whose stories are told and how they are told. In their creative practice with Obvious Agency, a theater cooperative they co-founded, they bring game design techniques and technologies into live theatrical scenarios that center player agency and collaboration and aim to diversify participation in the performing arts. Their writing can be found in Media-N, Critical Inquiry, Performance Research, HowlRound, and Film Quarterly.
