Music can often be an afterthought in game development, made and implemented towards the end of the development process and limited to minimal interactivity. To be able to create dynamic music behaviors unique to a game, music needs to be integrated early on into the design and technical processes. This case study is based on BODY COUNT, an upcoming indie game that involves driving a car to catch falling bodies, and crashing to rewind time. The conversation will center on using music and Wwise to support relevant mechanics, showing how unique design goals require a mix of technical and compositional solutions.
This talk looks at the challenges that came up during development, and how solving them kept unearthing new possibilities for the music to interact with gameplay choices and circumstances. It will cover the compositional and implementation tools used to make these musical reactions keep the player informed.

Takeaway
Attendees will leave this talk with a better idea of how to make music design choices that fit their game's unique needs. The technical and compositional solutions shown in this case study will serve as an example of possibilities and thought processes they can apply to their own design.
Intended Audience
This talk is for any game developer that has struggled with music design, and composers that are interested in learning more of what music design can be. There will be some technical dives into Wwise, though no prior knowledge of it is needed to understand the concepts.
